numerunique now adopts the GPLv3 for its software development
19/06/2025

Originally, numerunique used a closed source model in order to protect its customers. Indeed, source code availability is essential for freedom of use which is the core objective of non-proprietary software. However, unlike often claimed, open-source’s open code is a necessary weakness, not a security shield. The value of open-source lies primarily in usage-driven detection and rapid patching. Security requires funding and expertise, not transparency.

numerunique always aims to ensure customers’ freedom and independence. Software developed by numerunique is typically delivered on customer-owned dedicated servers. Security archives are backed up in a secure, customer-controlled external storage. Previously, customers lacked the legal rights to transfer code to another software team if numerunique became unavailable.

GPLv3 does not require the software to be given for free nor its code to be publicly available.

This aligns with numerunique's goals and main objective: user satisfaction and freedom.
