IPv4 Still Has a Bright Future!

6,485: that’s the number of IPv4 addresses banned today for attempted hacking on a few servers monitored by numerunique.
This only covers IPs banned for a portion of possible attacks; there are others, but a complete inventory would be more tedious than useful: this is a sufficient indicator.
These are also just minimally exposed servers and systematic, unsophisticated attacks with no clear intent against the targeted servers.
In reality, there’s a massive army of bots constantly scanning for vulnerabilities on every server on the planet, aiming to take control and add more recruits to this army.
And all these compromised servers each use an IP address that could be better utilized.
So, the IPv4 address shortage announced since the late last millennium is a good joke: we could start by reclaiming all those used by hackers :-)
